Amazon reported Dec 2015 results a few days ago. If you’ve been following the blog, you know that sales have been tanking for about 2 years now. What’s a pornographer to do? Double down and find a way to make some money.
heh.
So let’s look at my Best Sellers list for 2015 at Amazon.
Bailey, the Family Pet was a November release.
KENP can be worth it, if you have the right title
I put Bailey, the Family Pet into Kindle Select (KS) and did some promotions with Selena’s new promotion list. I’m very happy with the results. Bailey, the Family Pet was my top seller for the whole year at Amazon.
But KS isn’t a silver bullet either. I also enrolled The Mentor in November, and it hasn’t done nearly as well.
Here are the KS numbers for both books.
That works out to about half a penny for every KENP (every page read).
International sales means the UK
I finally worked out the details for how to do the conversion to get reasonably accurate results for International sales. As I’ve said, the International sales haven’t been huge, but the UK is a significant market.
Finally numbers that are trending upwards
Finally here are the quarters.
Still not back to the heady days of 2012/2013, but that last quarter looks good. I’m encouraged, but I’m not out of the woods yet. Bailey, the Family Pet was an unusual book for me. I rarely do science fiction/fantasy erotica. I’m more of a The Mentor kind of guy. It’s frustrating that readers weren’t able to connect with it, so far. I’m still trying. More promotions coming as I wind down the KS enrollment period. I may keep Bailey, the Family Pet in KS for another go. I may put The Mentor in other stores.
Resolutions for the coming year
This year I’m going to keep running promotions with Selena and maybe Book Bub. I’m going to put new releases, especially longer books, into KS for initial release, because it seems to have a good impact on my back list at Amazon. Finally I’m going to write longer books. Don’t worry, I’ll still write shorter stories, but I may not publish them until I have enough to make 150 page anthology of stories.
If you’ve got ideas, I’d love to hear them in the comments. If you have questions, put them in the comments.
Meanwhile, good luck, and keep writing!
Keep plugging, Huck! You are an inspiration to us all.
