I know this is the question you may be asking yourself. If you’ve been watching my new books you know that I’ve got some awesome bad ass art these days. Where do I get them? How do I do it? Well, it’s an easy answer and I don’t mind telling you my secret.
I get my covers from James at http://www.GoOnWrite.com.
When it comes to covers, James is the man. He is fast and bad ass, and he isn’t too expensive. Here is how it works. You pick a pre-made cover from his inventory of . . . A LOT of COVERS. When you find the one you want, you Paypal James his fee and then you send him the title and author name you want on your cover. Soon the full size cover you picked appears in your email, but this time it has your name on it and the title of your book.
Below is one of my future covers for a new title I have coming out for the fall. One day this cover is going to read, “The Mentor” by Huck Pilgrim.
Once your cover art goes out, James takes the cover down from his site, so no one else has the same cover as you do. So for example, pretty soon the cover above is going to disappear from James site. When that happens, no one else will have this combination of art, design and fonts. Just me.
And if you want some little tweak done to the pre-made cover, you can get that done for an extra few dollars ($15 USD, the last time I did it). I did that by asking for a special font for the cover of Ain’t No Shame in Bein’ a Ho. Or if you have something specific in mind, you can get him to work with you on a custom cover. I’ve never done this, but if I were to do it, I would do it with James, because I like his work and he’s fast and smart. But most of all, I would do it because he doesn’t fuck around.
He’s is an animal about getting new covers on his site. If you sign up for his newsletter, he sends you a note each month to say that he’s uploaded a hundred or more new covers. I’ll be honest with you, I sometimes scan the covers just to see what he did that’s new. Also because he has a great sense of humor and the mock titles and author names are often a hoot.
Here are a few of my favorites to show you what I mean:
