Nina is a dropout. She doesn’t like classes or homework. She doesn’t like all the rules in school. Nina likes to sleep in late. She likes to stay up and watch Netflix until two or three a.m. What she really needs, she realizes, is a job as an adult model. It’s a little sketchy, but she is willing to trade a tiny bit of self-respect if it means she can get her needs met. Besides, the manager of the adult agency says nobody needs to know she is an adult model, especially not the older guy who is letting her stay in his apartment and giving her rides. He is an older man, almost thirty. Nina hates that he thinks of her as his girlfriend, but she never complains. She imagines the handsome young men she will meet as an adult model. Instead, she meets with the manager of the agency who is old and crafty. He deftly separates her from her older male friend who drove her to the studio and soon discovers how desperate is Nina’s situation. He turns on the hot lights. He points the cameras toward her. He knows what the producers want to see from girls like Nina. Before this audition ends, Nina will have learned something about exploiting older men and about being exploited by even older men. She will see herself in a whole different light. Nina will leave the audition a different girl than the girl she was when she went in. But it’s all good. No harm, no foul. Even dropouts need an education.
